Peepoo, an innovative sanitation solution for slums
Ever heard of flying toilets? Plastic bags used as toilets and thrown from trains by slum dwellers on their way to work in the morning. Non-environmentally friendly and a source of disease AND user unfriendly: try it yourself and you will know what I mean.
Solution: a super user-friendly bio-degradable bag that transforms excreta into fertilizer. MWF and the Swedish management jointly wrote the business plan to launch the product on a large scale in Kenya, presented at the Stockholm Water Week in 2009. On May 12th the first Sujol plant was opened officially. This plant produces 200 liters an hours. The water quality is within Bangladeshi standards. The plant reduces Salinity up till 97% and Arsenic from 370 ppm to 30 ppm. Sujol water taste nearly as good as mineral water and beats the taste of water treated by comparable alternatives easily.
