Documentaries: The Blue Gold

Het Blauwe Goud (The Blue Gold) is a 4-part TV documentary series covering the problems and solutions to freshwater shortages in the developing world. The series, which was was originally broadcast on Dutch television by the NCRV in June/July 2008, featured the following countries and organisations:

  • Kenya  (Amref/Flying Doctors; ISCOM and SNS Waterfund)
  • India and Sri Lanka  (Clean Water Now!)
  • Gambia  (Acqua Aero Water Systems)
  • Cambodia  (WaterRight)
  • Vietnam  (Vitens/Evides and the Netherlands Government)
  • Nigeria  (The Association of Water Boards (UVW))
  • Nicaragua  (Friesland Foods)

Besides taking the initiative for the series, and selecting the projects, EMF also conducted an extensive interview with Crown Prince Willem-Alexander of The Netherlands.

The Water and Sanitation Business Development Toolkit is an in depth guide to the principles of doing business in poverty-stricken areas, offers a step-by-step business development approach and provides practical tools, tips and background information.

Happenings: Partners for Water funds Bangladesh project

EMF's Bangladesh Project, which aims to provide Arsenic free water to 30,000 villages in rural Bangladesh, has been rated as the best application in the Partners for Water Subsidy Scheme. The project was officially launched by EMF founder Allerd Stikker at the opening bell ceremony at Amsterdam's Stock Exchange on 15 December 2010.

Water Venture Yokyakarta

Aqua-Aero Water Systems BV and PT Ruhaak Phala Industries combine forces to build water kiosks providing drinking water and energy to poor people in Indonesia. Micro Water Facility, part of the Aidenvironment incubator, provides business development support and attracts financial means.
